Intended learning outcomes

Upon approval, the student should be able to:

  1. Calculate and interpret the meaning of average molar masses (Mn and Mw), degree of polymerization and polydispersity; describe the methods of determination of Mn and Mw and their scope.
  2. Interpret and describe the main types of polymerization mechanisms and their associated kinetics.
  3. Identify, describe and apply the main polymerization techniques.
  4. Establish structure-properties-function correlations for the main types of structural and functional polymers.
  5. Know how the various methods of analysis and characterization of polymers are applied and interpret the outcomes.
  6. Describe the most common types of polymerization reactors, identifying the required specificities for each polymerization type.
  7. Describe the main polymer processing technologies as a function of polymer properties and their applications.
